Today at Stepping Stones, we had the privilege of hosting a special event that brought the excitement and importance of emergency medical services right to our doorstep. Two remarkable parents from our community, Amy and Ash—both dedicated paramedics—brought an ambulance to our centre to share their expertise with our eager young learners.
The day began with a buzz of anticipation as groups of children gathered around the ambulance, eager to learn about its purpose and the equipment inside. With Amy and Ash as their guides, the children quickly grasped the significance of emergency lights and siren protocols, enthusiastically sharing their newfound knowledge.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the hands-on experiences inside the ambulance. Some children took on the role of paramedics, learning how to apply bandages, checking their “patients'” heart rates, and exploring the oxygen equipment used to assist those in need. Amy and Ash patiently answered questions and ensured each child had a chance to engage with the equipment—a thrilling and educational experience for all involved.
The excitement peaked when the children eagerly hopped onto the stretchers for a fun ride, bringing laughter and smiles as they experienced a small taste of what it might be like to receive care in an ambulance.
Beyond the fun and games, today’s experience served a deeper purpose. Our children gained a newfound respect and appreciation for the vital role paramedics play in our community. They learned about teamwork, compassion, and the importance of quick, efficient care during emergencies—a lesson that will stay with them long after today.
At Stepping Stones, we believe in fostering a holistic educational experience that extends beyond the classroom. Events like today’s not only inspire curiosity and engagement but also teach invaluable life lessons about empathy and respect for our community helpers.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Amy, Ash, and all paramedics who dedicate themselves to keeping our communities safe. Your visit today left a lasting impression on the children, sparking imaginations and perhaps even inspiring future careers in emergency medical services.
