This year’s Book Week theme, “Reading is Magic,” brought children, educators, and families from our services together to celebrate the enchanting world of books. It was a week filled with wonder, adventure, and a little bit of mystery! Each day, we welcomed special mystery readers who took the children on thrilling journeys through the pages of stories penned by some of Australia’s most beloved children’s authors. The excitement of not knowing who would read next added an extra layer of magic to our celebrations.
To make the week even more special, we themed each day around a particular author, highlighting their unique contributions to children’s literature. On Julia Donaldson Day, the whimsical rhymes and playful characters captured the imaginations of our young readers. From The Gruffalo to Room on the Broom, the stories were a hit! Pamela Allen Day introduced vibrant illustrations and heartwarming tales, with classics like Who Sank the Boat? sparking delightful discussions. Mem Fox Day showcased her rhythmic storytelling, with Possum Magic entertaining and encouraging a love of reading from an early age. We wrapped up our week with Alison Lester’s imaginative works, rich with adventure and discovery, which resonated deeply and inspired children to dream big.
Throughout the week, families joined in the fun, fostering a sense of community and a shared love for reading. The smiles, laughter, and animated discussions highlighted just how powerful stories can be in bringing people together. As we reflect on this magical week, we’re reminded of the joy and inspiration that books can offer.
